| “I
feel very honoured to be nominated for this award and
so does the rest of the dedicated team of volunteers
here at ACS. For our work to be recognised truly means
so much to us. We were all very surprised but excited
at the same time,” said Ms Proietti.
“The
awards allow organizations to come in contact with others
that share similar passions and views and in turn I
feel this brings about a stronger connection between
us all in our work with animals and the environment.”
She adds that due to the awards being so strongly in
the general public eye, it creates awareness towards
animal issues that are strongly being brought to the
forefront as of great importance by many animal organizations
and members of the public.
Angela Whiling voted for the ACS as she truly feels
they have great heart. Ms Whiling says the organization
educates people who may not understand the new information
about how to look after their new pets. ACS not only
encourages adoption but they provide care and vet service.
Ms Whiling says, “Australian Cavy Service also
offer boarding for those who are going away, so that
you know that people who deal with guinea pigs on a
regular basis will be caring for your special pet.”
Carmichaels Cattery owners, Sonia and Shane, say they
are proud to receive the nomination in the Biggest Heart
Award and are grateful to those who have acknowledged
their efforts to help animals in the community.
This wonderful cattery not only has a big heart, it
also provides five star accommodation to our feline
companions. They give their furry guests the love and
attention they deserve, and educating all pet owners
wherever they can. Wherever possible, they also donate
items, such as food or blankets, to other animal welfare
organizations and help them as much as possible.
“We feel that conservation of wildlife is just
as important as pet ownership - unfortunately it is
probably not as well recognised in the community, however,
it continues to grow more and more each year.”
Nicola
Beard says she was happy to vote for the Carmichaels
Cattery. Ms Beard says, “They are happy to cater
to your pet’s individual needs and are obviously
mad animal lovers. My cats are always content when it’s
time to pick them up which has not always been the case
at other catteries we have used in the past.”
Ms
Beard’s beautiful dog Sapphire, a poodle cross
whom they rescued from the pound, has touched the whole
family’s heart including their cats. Ms Beard
says, “She has enriched our lives in so many ways
and every day we look at her and can’t believe
how lucky we are, not to mention how well she has landed
on her feet!”
Ms Peggy Hayes, branch secretary and spokesperson for
RSPCA Gold Coast says it feels fantastic on being nominated
for the Biggest Heart Award. While the accolades of
our peers, supporters, volunteers, and general public
is not the reason we do our job, it is nonetheless very
rewarding to be recognised for our very hard work and
dedication to animal welfare.
RSPCA
is the only animal welfare agency with the rights to
an Inspectorate – sort of like the animal cops
– who investigate acts of cruelty and neglect,
who educate public and prosecute those who commit heinous
crimes against animals. Ms Hayes says she is proud to
be part of such a wonderful organisation.
“We are also one of the few organisations that
can honestly say we’d like to be out of business,”
says Ms Hayes. She further adds that there is no more
stalwart cheerleader of the relationship between humans
and animals than the RSPCA!
RSPCA’s vision about animals is that if they can
teach children and the general public about compassion
to animals, their job is half-way done. Remembering
the special animal a lovely dog Nellie who touched their
heart Ms Hayes says when she was brought into RSPCA
shelter she had been sexually abused and was damaged
internally and critically. She made a full recovery
after months and months of rehabilitation and now leads
a happy and healthy life with a wonderful older couple.
HURRY!
