AWL
Qld Safe Haven Program for Shy and Frightened Cats |
AWL Qld is working towards 0 Euthanasia.
The AWL is looking for Special Foster Carers to
temporarily home shy and frightened cats in a bid to make them “adoptable”.
Timid and unsocialised cats do not cope well in a refuge environment
where there are many other cats and people to cope with. They need
a quiet, calm environment as well as plenty of gentle care and
time to get used to their environment.
AWL Qld is therefore looking for temporary homes
for cats while they are advertised on the website for a permanent
home, where they can be given special care to socialize and rehome
them. The AWL are looking for people who love cats
and who can provide the following:
• A quiet home with no other
animals; or a home with a quiet room to keep a cat safe and calm,
such as a spare bathroom
•Gentle care
• Time to sit with and encourage these animals to increase
their confidence and trust
• Patience (these animals may not be willing to be picked
up or cuddled for some time)
• The possibility for rehoming directly from your home
• Willingness to provide this care for several weeks or
even months depending on the needs of the cat and availability
of owners.
AWL Qld would promote
these animals on our website and interested new owners would
be interviewed for suitability and be able to visit and hopefully
adopt the animal from the foster carer’s home. Provided landlord and body corporate
permission can be obtained, this is an ideal opportunity for non-pet
owners in units, as cats will need to be kept safely, totally indoors
and cats are quiet and clean, making them the ideal candidates
for temporary guests.
Anyone interested in being part of this program,
please phone 55099020, or email michelle@awlqld.com.au
Anyone who is willing to adopt a shy cat and
give it a permanent home, please also email or phone, as they need
someone’s love too. Information and support in the care of
shy and frightened cats will be provided. |

Slithery Celebrity Cashes In
For Currumbin's Community Wildlife Hospital |
The carpet python who became a slithery
celebrity after devouring four golf balls has found new international
fame on eBay and raised a nice sum of money for Currumbin Wildlife
Sanctuary's new Community Wildlife Hospital. The golf balls were
removed from the snake last month in world first surgery and sold
on eBay for the generous sum of $1,401.00 after an intense bidding
frenzy.
The winning eBay bidder from Australia took home
the golf balls, veterinary photographs and original x-ray's of the
snake before and after surgery. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's Executive
Marketing Manager, David Luxton, says all proceeds from the eBay
sale will go towards building a new Community Wildlife Hospital at
the Sanctuary.
"For all the great work our
Wildlife Hospital does we receive no Government funding whatsoever
and rely solely on community and corporate donations." |
|
"The
hospital is inundated with more than 4000 animals each year, and
space is such a premium, we need a new hospital built as soon as
possible to cope with the demand," explained Mr Luxton.
"This money will make a great contribution
to getting our dreams of a new hospital underway."
The unusual eBay item caused quite a stir among
international buyers after receiving extensive media attention from
around the globe in such far flung places as Malaysia, Germany, France,
South Africa, Pakistan, Canada, New Zealand and Mexico. |
