CRITICAL CAPACITY DUE TO LACK OF COMMITMENT > > >

You may have seen recent media coverage on the dire situation at our AWL Coombabah shelter. Although their rehoming rate is very high, there are times when it simply cannot keep up with the rate of surrenders. In layman's terms there are more animals coming in than are going out. If you do the math they are simply filling up and running out of room to put them....with the plans for their new rehoming centre still a long way off.

Residents of the Gold Coast and surrounding areas, despite our advice and the help that is out there, are continuing to surrender their animals at an alarming rate.

Whether the reason is that they are moving, their landlord won't allow the animal or that they are struggling with perceived behavioural problems ...furry family members are being abandoned in droves.

While NO animal already with us, that has been deemed suitable for rehoming, is under threat - what this means is that, if we run out of room, we may not be able to care for and rehome new animals that are unwanted by their owners.

SUPPORTING THE AWL IS NOW TAX DEDUCTIBLE! > > >

As the end of the financial year approaches it is important to know what you can claim as tax deductible and what you can't. The big news for the Animal Welfare League of Qld, and big news for you too, is that we have finally been awarded our DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status.

What that means is that all donations over $2, made to the AWL - along with other gifts - are now tax deductible. This means that supporting the AWL is now even more appealing. Many businesses, and individuals, benefit at tax time from being philanthropic and also like to know they are assisting a worthy cause….you can too!

Meisha is a two-year-old female rottweiler with a tail. She is affectionate, gentle and well behaved when exercised regularly. She just turned two in May and is still in the later stages of puppy playfulness, being a little boisterous at times. She has a sweet, loving nature and loves cats, children and other dogs. She is also very people orientated and thrives on human companionship. She was bought for 17-year-old son who isn’t prepared to walk her or spend a lot of time with her, so she is looking for an owner who could lavish her with attention with daily walks and interaction. She is immunized, desexed, microchipped and registered, and comes with a kennel, leads, collars and any leftover food.
