PET STYLISTS COMPETE FOR THE SNAZZIEST OF AWARDS!
The third Annual Paws and Claws Awards have come around again, and the voter response has been enormous with almost double the votes received from last year! The awards recognise local businesses, individuals and organizations’ outstanding commitments to the welfare of animals.

The ‘snazziest stylist’ category is hotting it up this year, with a number of nominees contending the top spot for 2009. The winner will embody consistency in their animal grooming, as well as have a creative flare that enhances your animal’s uniqueness. Hence, our nominees offer a combination of highly sophisticated extra services such as massage therapy, muscle repair therapy, music therapy, nature bush walks and just well-being at a 5-star quality. Perfection, excellence and the right portion of heart in dealing with dogs are the qualities we are looking for in our nominees.

The Animal Affair Dog Grooming Salon in Mooloolaba, a long-standing salon of over 30 years, is excited to be nominated for this year’s awards. They provide professional, full grooming services for pets including a club shop where you can find everything your heart desires for your little puppy. Their motto: “a happy pet is a well-groomed pet”, emphasizes the importance of pet grooming in the warmer areas of south-east Queensland where our fury friends may suffer the most under a thick coat of fur. For that reason Animal Affair has introduced a website, a blog and a chat room to provide their customers an online-store that offers professional assistance, in addition to their supportive on-site team.

The Animal Affair employee Sue Wright strongly emphasised the long-term commitment and responsibility associated with pet ownership, particularly the necessity to groom your animals appropriately. The Mooloolaba Salon’s voting clients agree with this, and correspondingly have pointed out The Animal Affair’s superior customer service. Loyal customer Kelly Taylor regards the salon as great, and she embodies this via responsible pet ownership by treating her Cocker Spaniel with similar respect to that of a human!

“Happy dogs will give it back for sure!” said Mrs. Taylor.

Kelly’s dog is her greatest friend who spent time next to her while Kelly was sick and during her pregnancy. Her dog is one of the greatest joys in her life that always makes her smile.

Betta Grooming & Doggies Day Care’s Shona Baigent said it’s their message to “give 100%” to their customers. As well as providing a full clipping and grooming service, and a dog day care centre, this dog-crazy business has put in place a system that supports animal welfare and assists dogs in finding new homes. The idea is to inform potential animal owners of the responsibilities associated with purchasing an animal, and to make them absolutely sure about doing so before acting.

“We try to encourage everyone in our environment to have a healthy attitude towards pets each and every day. And we encourage that anybody who owns a pet respects his own animal and also respects other people’s animals”, declared Betta Grooming and Doggies Day Care employee Anne.

Another growing business that supports responsible animal ownership is Pooch Avenue of Brisbane who was overwhelmed when notified of their nomination. The eight-week old business owned by two young, inspiring women, Natasha Belosev and Amanda Pavokovic, have received 100% positive feedback from all their voters. They are Queensland’s only 5- star luxury salon and boutique, offering the latest in pet style cuts, spa wash, photographers and day care facilities to their clients. In a nutshell: Pooch Avenue is the pet industry’s Hilton! Not only do they expertise in superior animal grooming, their vision and international experience also leaves you in awe. These caring and determined ladies strongly believe that people need to be better-educated on responsible pet ownership before purchasing a pet so they offer a free first-time puppy groom up to the age of 16 weeks for their clients to learn the basics of maintaining healthy and well-groomed pooches.

“Dogs should have more freedom in terms of being allowed in more public areas and being permitted to travel with their owners”, said Natasha Belosev.

This power duo attract people from all over Australia and they even have a secret fan, Tom Labas from Victoria, who loves the idea of a pet grooming shop with the exclusive purpose to pamper your pet.

“The website, the pictures and the whole business concept is just fantastic”, said Mr Labas.

Puss n Pooch Day Spa, also located in Brisbane, is very appreciative of their nomination for the third Annual Paws & Claws Awards and believes that this nomination is, quite simply, reflective of their work. Grooming services from hairdressing to the whole beauty package, as well as a day spa are offered to their customers. A quality that makes them stand out among a vast range of competitors is that they offer their services towards both dogs and cats.

Representing the only Mobile Groomer participating in this award is Sharon Fodden’s A Good Life-“New Leash on Life”. Making a top five finalist position in last year’s Paws and Claws Awards, Sharon said she had lots of fun and is keen on winning this year! Mrs Fodden is extremely passionate about her work and this year’s nomination represents some of the rewards she receives everyday from her customers and her own dog, Buddy. A Good Life has been running for 16 years and offers a wide range of services such as mobile grooming, full cuts, massage therapy (including a mud wrap), style clipping, muscle repair therapy, physical well-being and music therapy to keep dogs minds at ease. The business use their own shampoo and food products, with only organic substances, offers day care services, nature bush walks, live coaching and also has unique classes for pregnant ladies to learn how to introduce the dog to a new baby.

Sharon’s mission is to promote the best understanding between animal and human, and to achieve a reciprocal appreciation. This is something she has achieved with her own pet poodle, Buddy; for Sharon a dog is not just a pet but a companion and a big investment, which rewards her every day. Sharon has a natural instinct, which lets her connect with every dog in unexplainable way, and she simply wishes that more people could experience what she feels every day.

All our nominees are doing great work every day and this year’s Awards should once again reward the greatest of all the amazing competitors. Unfortunately just one will be the winner in the end, although all deserve a big thank you for their extraordinary work.
